About Us

Friends of Garfield Music serves to support the standard of excellence in music education for orchestra, band, and percussion ensembles within Garfield High School. We seek to build and support strong ensembles that are inviting to newcomers and experienced musicians alike, and to honor the rich history of instrumental music at Garfield.

We seek to further showcase the incredible diversity of Garfield students on their musical journey through high school and beyond.

What We Do

Friends of Garfield Music is the parent organization that provides volunteer and financial support for students in Garfield’s orchestra, band, and percussion ensembles throughout their high school musical journeys. It serves as a sister organization to the Garfield Jazz Foundation, which plays a similar role for Garfield’s instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles.

A significant part of our mission is to subsidize music activities so that all students can fully participate. To facilitate this goal, we provide financial support for:

  • Instrumental coaching

  • Instrument purchase and maintenance

  • Music scores

  • Festival fees and tour scholarships

FOGM is a non-profit 501(c)(3), so all donations are tax deductible and potentially eligible for employer matching.

Our parent and community volunteers organize and help make possible the ensembles’ public concerts, festivals, and out-of-town excursions. All parents and guardians are enthusiastically encouraged to join this dedicated group of volunteers. We appreciate your time even if just helping out at one event during the year.

If you are able to help out, please fill out our volunteer form or contact us at the address below.
